Mixcloud has leveled up with their latest music streaming service, Select. This new addition to the audio platform will bring listeners closer to the creators they follow and may give the platform an edge on its competitors.
Formally announced as Mixcloud Select, the subscription gives users an enhanced listening experience. Starting at $2.99, it includes ad-free access, offline listening, and the ability to view upfront tracklists.
Unlike the other streaming services, listeners subscribe directly to the artists rather than all of Mixcloud’s music library. DJs and other uploaders have the freedom to set their own price. After royalties are paid to labels and publishers, they can get a percentage of the total revenue. Mixcloud’s innovative content ID system identifies tracks and underlying rights holders, eliminating the issue of unfair pay.
Nico Perez, Co-Founder at Mixcloud said of the feature:
“Mixcloud Select is our pioneering move toward building a fair and sustainable ecosystem that works for audio creators, artists and listeners. We want to enable fans to get closer to the culture and communities they care about, while ensuring that everyone involved in the creative process is recognized and rewarded accordingly”
The U.K.-based company’s unique model gives Select users a more unified community. The first set of creators to launch with Select include Afrojack, Brooklyn Radio, Clash Magazine, Defected Records, DJ P Montana, Eats Everything, John Digweed, Nicole Moudaber and Soul Clap.
Established in 2009, Mixcloud serves listeners access to an exclusive collection of over 15 million radio shows, DJ mixes, and podcasts. These have been curated and uploaded by over 1.3 million tastemakers around the world. Join the platform here.
